Inherited Santa CollectionPublished on: Wed, 10 Dec 2014 19:31:37 UTC

My grandfather played the Knoxville Santa Claus in the annual parade until his death in 1972. He and my Uncle Rick built a sleigh and welcomed hundreds of children nightly to visit with the Jolly old Elf himself and see what the children wanted for Christmas. After he passed away, my grandmother was given a Santa figurine, and over the years more and more Santas arrived. The majority of the collection was gifts, but she included several herself. After her death in 2003, the family decided I should be the one to keep the Santa tradition going. The collection I inherited contained about 120 Santas, and has grown over the years to about 230. I only limit myself to one Santa purchase a year, usually while I'm travelling. Again, friends and family contribute to the collection, and I lovingly and tenderly arrange them in a happy jumble every holiday season. I love these guys so much that I can't bear to have them out just a few weeks of the year, so I put them out after Halloween annually.
