Description:
Davidson students chose the busiest evening of the year to stage a "die in" protest against police brutality in downtown Davidson, N.C. About 250 protesters marched from campus into the annual "Christmas in Davidson" celebration downtown on Saturday evening, December 6. Members of the group lay down and blocked a section of the street cordoned off for pedestrian traffic, but did not hinder traffic on the adjacent sidewalk. The protesters had notified police of their plans, and authorities did not interfere with the 45-minute civil action. Most downtown shoppers reacted with curiosity and some favor, though a few voiced their displeasure. Demonstrators wore white t-shirts bearing the names of various black men who have been killed by police, and a moderator for the demonstrators called several by name during the course of the protest.
